  • Overview

    WYB offers recreational gymnastics classes for pre-school to 8th grade at the beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. Classes are held once per week, typically in 8-week sessions, with sessions offered year-round. These classes are designed to teach basic tumbling and gymnastics skills and build on those skills over the course of the class. Skills are taught on all 4 disciplines/apparatus.
  • Class Schedule

    Gymnastics rec classes are offered year-round, typically in 8 week sessions. Specific details regarding class days and times will be made available when registration opens, which is approximately 1-2 weeks before the end of the current session. Space is limited; registration and payment must be completed through the website in order to guarantee your spot. (Note: A processing fee of $15 will be charged if you register and later decide to cancel.)

    Winter Session: mid-January to mid-March
    Spring Session: mid/end March to mid/end May
    Summer 1 Session: June (4-week mini-session)
    Summer 2 Session: July (4-week mini-session)
    Fall 1 Session: mid-August to mid-October
    Fall 2 Session: mid-October to mid-December
  • Class Levels

    Preschool: An introduction to beginner gymnastics! This 40-minute class is designed for preschool aged children who have not yet begun Kindergarten. Co-ed, ages 3 to 5. Basic tumbling and gymnastics will be taught in a fun and participatory environment.

    Beginner: Little to no prior gymnastics experience is needed. Gymnasts will learn basic skills such as forward/backward rolls, bridge kick-overs, cartwheels, jumps, donkey kicks, pullovers, and swinging and casting on bars. Classes are typically 60-minutes, for girls K-8.

    Intermediate: Should have some prior gymnastics experience. Gymnasts will continue to work on basic skills and will learn new skills such as jumps and handstands on beam, back-bend kick-overs, and back hip circles. Classes are typically 60-minutes, for girls K-8.

    Advanced: Gymnasts will practice skills such as cartwheels and handstands on beam, back-hip-circles on bars, and back/front handsprings on floor. Classes are typically 60-minutes, for girls K-8.

    The closest physical address for the gym entrance is 1050 Mediterranean Avenue, but it does not depict the WYB Gym entrance. You must follow the turn-by-turn directions below to get to the gym.

    TURN BY TURN DIRECTIONS
    From High Street & 161, take 161 East to Busch Boulevard. Turn left onto Busch Boulevard. Turn right on Shapter, then left on Boardwalk, then right on Mediterranean.
    Once on Mediterranean, take your first left into an unmarked parking lot and then immediately veer to the right, crossing a large gravel parking lot.
    Bright lime green Continent apartments will be on your left, and the WYB gym is the big light sage green/grey warehouse-style building directly in front of you/north as you are crossing the parking lot. There is a small green awning with a sign in the window that says Worthington Gymnastics.
  • Staff

    SHEA STAMMEN - GYMNASTICS COACHING DIRECTOR, TEAM HEAD COACH
    Shea is a former gymnast from North East Ohio. She competed for nine years and was a three time YMCA National qualifier. She also competed in USAG and AAU. Shea has coached recreational and competitive gymnastics for the past 20 yrs. While in college at Capital University, she coached classes and team at Buckeye gymnastics. In 2000, she began coaching in the Worthington Schools for McCord and Perry Middle Schools and Kilbourne High School. She is currently the head coach at Westerville Central High School where she started the program in 2013. She got involved with WYB in 2000 and became director in 2001. During the summer of 2007, she coached at the Texas Sports Ranch Gymnastics Camp with former Olympians Peter Kormann and Shannon Miller. Shea is a registered nurse at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, is CPR certified and has her first aid, safety and pupil advisory certifications. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, skiing, running, and going to OSU football games.

  • Competitive Team

    WYB also offers a competitive girls’ gymnastics team, with try-outs held once per year in May. For more information on the team, go to Tryout Programs > Gymnastics Team in the main menu.
